Dating Services and Getting Shafted

I may get some backlash for my stance on why people shouldn’t use dating services because there are many people who can attest to their success in finding marriage and lifelong mates through the world of online dating.
I’ve also heard the most outlandish stories in my life from people who’ve used online dating services. People who meet their would-be mates face to face who show up as women instead of being men, people who underestimate their weight by a hundred or so pounds, and people who aren’t even the people in the pictures they post in their online profiles.
People are taking a pretty big risk in meeting people online because they truly don’t know what kind of person is on the other side of the screen. You can invest hours and hours of time and effort in someone with whom is hiding behind a façade that is completely different from the image you’ve created in your mind.
It’s easy for us to paint a portrait of the person we want to see and immortalize them in our brains as someone who fits exactly who we want them to be. They are “perfect” because we don’t know them to be any other way other than what they’re willing to show us in a secret illusionary world.
Here’s why dating services really suck:
-
You have to pay for them.
You shouldn’t have to PAY to find love for Pete’s sake. Love is something you get for free.In fact, it doesn’t come any other way.
We’ve all heard the saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” I have yet to hear of a dating site that has even a 60% success rate and if they proclaim that figure or above, they’re trying to sell you everything including the farm.
I especially wouldn’t take advice or pay someone who has a long track record of remaining single themselves, while claiming to be some knowledgeable expert.
Again, dating services work for a lot of people, but you shouldn’t have to spend money to find true love. Makes the whole thing a pretty lame gimmick that reeks of BS simply because you can’t buy real love, directly or indirectly.
-
People lie/hide behind an online persona.
People in the online dating world are notoriously dishonest about a lot of things ranging from income level, to height, to education and occupation. People have to lie online because the truth isn’t working for them in person.

You can be anyone you want online. You can be as desirable as you wish and portray yourself as someone who is worthy of all the love and attention in the world with old and doctored pictures, phony resumes, fake business cards and made up characteristics.
People are RARELY 100% honest online because they try and bolster what they’re lacking by embellishing what they want people to see and withholding who they really are. If you’re 5’6, say so. If you’re a bisexual, say so. If you’re married, say so.
Wow, that last one is totally inconvenient isn’t it? Catch my drift?
-
People don’t have the decorum to be courteous.
I’ve heard people who sign up for dating sites say that there are no-holds-barred rules as far as how rude you can be to other people. You give a wink and you are ignored or you say hello to someone and they tell you point blank to eff off or they’ll flat out report you for abuse.
Then when you finally do meet a guy and you hit it off, he’s still actively using the site trying to meet other women. I can’t recall how many times I’ve heard women complain that the guy they’ve been seeing for months now has not removed himself or his profile from an online site.
If the guy/girl is a career-long dating site user, I’d be extremely skeptical. Obviously if the dating site really worked, it’s logical they wouldn’t need to remain on there year after year.
-
A lot of the men hanging out online are desperate douches.
I’ve browsed a free dating site to see exactly what kind of fish are out there swimming upstream. I came across a profile of a guy who had some mid-life complex who was desperately trying to gain the attention of every beautiful girl on the site. He had scanned pictures of a yacht somewhere in the Mediterranean and a picture of him holding your typical fanned out style sailor’s wad of dollar bills.
He spoke of his “accomplishments” in such a way that screamed “Hey babes check me out! I’m a reformed loser, now hot-to-trot hunk, because I’ve got stacks of Monopoly money and a picture of a boat that isn’t mine.”
People who flash around this kind of distasteful crap are talking out of their rear ends. They know it and that’s why they’re constantly ignored online and in the real world.
Most of the men on these sites are from the discard pile because they have issues that disallow them to be proper and distinguished enough to approach women in person. They can’t hack it because they’re obviously inept and utterly socially retarded.
-
It’s a toss up as to whether or not you’re going to have chemistry.
You can’t extract chemistry from a chunk of plastic surrounding an LCD monitor and the 10-year old photoshopped photos splayed within them. And you can’t possibly determine if you’re physically compatible without meeting face to face.
You can talk to each other until you’re blue in the face and believe with all your heart and soul there is some mystical power set in by conversation that draws you two “closer and closer”. Well, all that’s for crap swimming down the drain if the physical attraction just isn’t there.
Pictures are never a real true representation of the people in them. We can be visually attracted to someone in pictures but it takes a true chemical connection to sustain a real lasting attraction. Again, YOU CAN’T GET THAT UNLESS YOU MEET IN PERSON.
Online dating sites are a lot like other enterprises out there capitalizing and preying on people’s humanistic needs just to make a few bucks. Indeed, many people are single and they are looking for love and it’s tough out there in a dog-eat-dog world.
However, we can and should get on and get by without having to lie and play games and waste other people’s precious time. Unfortunately, dating sites do exactly that. They are breeding grounds for dishonesty and made up fantasies. People already get plenty of that in person, why spend your all your time and hard-earned dimes to get that in make believe?
Stick to good old-fashioned dating people in the flesh, the only thing that truly works.
